What factors affect the blending quality of lubricating oil?

Lubricating oil compound additives introduce: Many factors affect the blending quality of lubricating oil. The blending efficiency of the blending equipment and the quality of the blending components directly affect the quality of the blended lubricating oil. This section mainly analyzes the impact of lubricating oil process and operational factors on the quality of the blended lubricating oil.

1. Accurate metering of components

Accurate metering is crucial, whether in intermittent or continuous blending. Accurate metering ensures the correct proportions of each component when added.

2. Water content in components

Water content in components directly affects the turbidity of the blended product and the appearance of the lubricating oil. It can also sometimes cause hydrolysis of certain additives, reducing their effectiveness. Therefore, water should be prevented from contaminating the components.

3. Air in components

Air in the components and within the system is unavoidable and is very detrimental to blending.

4. Blending Temperature

A suitable blending temperature should be selected. Excessively high temperatures may cause oxidation or thermal deterioration of the lubricating oil and additives, while excessively low temperatures will worsen the flow properties of the components, affecting the final product. Generally, 55-65℃ is ideal.

5. Additive Dilution

Some additives are very viscous and must be melted and diluted before use to prepare a suitable concentration of additive stock solution. Otherwise, it may affect the uniformity of blending and the accuracy of measurement. However, too much diluent should not be added to the additive stock solution to avoid affecting the quality of the lubricating oil.

6. Cleanliness of the Blending System

Solid impurities and non-blended base oils and additives present in the blending system can contaminate the system and potentially cause substandard blended products. Therefore, the lubricating oil blending system must be kept clean.

7. Stirring Time

The stirring time should be reasonably determined based on the size of the blending vessel, the amount of materials to be blended, the heating temperature, and the stirring method. Too short a stirring time will result in insufficient mixing; too long a stirring time will lead to excessive energy consumption.
